I have a hope, at least, that maybe it might spur him towards rethinking his world view on other people in general, but I have to do so within his existing framework. He doesn't respond in the ways you or I might find typical.

What I mean is that unless the logic of it is sound, he can't understand it. Empathy is a morphing beast; the validity of one's feelings and morals changes depending on the personal point of view. But you can argue for why a certain reaction to a situation is logically sound, and that's what I hope to get through to him. That he can empathize with others by understanding the logic in their actions and points of view.
That's what I mean.

[he's not surprised the guy has a better idea of what to do with this than him... archie barely knows shinigami, but he can see why dee might better relate to him than archie. archie's a messy, emotional person. shinigami has only ever offered sound, practical advice, the kind of level-headed shelly is.]
guess it's gonna be a little tougher when it gets to the irrational part of emotions though

I'm not exactly one to talk there, I suppose. I'm the same as anyone.
Feel free to continue doing your own thing. I'm not about to tell you that my method is best; I'm hardly a shrink. Not that I'd trust any shrink that came through that Porter.

but from my experience with him i'm sure you're gonna find more examples of him not understanding or refusing to understand than i care to mention
i get what you mean, i just don't wanna end up confusing him by saying shit that contradicts what you're trying to teach him
though maybe having two different perspectives on how emotions work might help
we should be paid child support for this, honestly.

Don't worry about it, though. You're trying, too. It doesn't matter to me what method works, if one of us manages some kind of breakthrough.
