[D33 wasn't expecting that question somehow, and it hits him right in the chest. He almost considers not answering, but he's so desperate. And besides, knowing Shinigami, he'd likely find out either way. He can keep it somewhat ambiguous, can't he?]

[Short, sweet, and to the point - maybe something like this won't surprise Duo as much as it had surprised D33 (or fascinated him, at least), but he's too tired right not to try beating around the bush about it and to play any of Duo's little games. That, or he's too tired to type more than two words.

Though, that of Magnus Chase seems to be somewhat unique.

According to him, he died rather regularly in the world from whence he came.

It's called "Valhalla" - apparently a construct of Norse mythology.

He was killed in Boston the first time he died, I believe. After that, as far as I gathered, he supposedly worked under the god "Odin".

I don't believe he told me that much directly, but that is what the information surrounding the name "Valhalla" would suggest.

[All of which still sounds rather ludicrous to him, but he is curious to see what Shinigami will make of it (if he'll even bother sharing his thoughts in the first place).

[Duo does have, let's say, a fixation on death mythologies from all over. That's not to say he knows the intimate details of every one, but he's familiar enough with the major concepts. After all, it's how he came across 'Shinigami', myths passed around the children of the colonies.]

[This was ...interesting. Very interesting. Someone that has died, over and over, to be reborn in the service of a higher power. It felt very ...familiar, in a way, even though it wasn't. They were all the playthings of these gods. Lachesis, foremost, but he wasn't hers. She hadn't been the first to claim him.]

[The Shinigami were bored. That's what Mello had said. In Greek myths, gods always acted out of ennui and self-interest. And so, it appeared, did the Norse.]

[It's a tricky question, given what conflicting information he's been able to find on the topic. Most commonly, it appeared that a Shinigami was thought to be something of a grim reaper - Father Maxwell certainly couldn't fit that bill, could he? All of the logic that D33 possesses is telling him no, and yet here is this man who, when present, reveals himself only to D33, who seems to know everything, who dresses in all black, etc., etc.

[In this world, who is to say what might and might not be possible? It's only a fleeting thought-- Alright, well. Maybe a bit more than fleeting. But D33 is pretty sure that that can't be the case.

I didn't believe in many of the things that I have come to encounter within this world.

I don't think it works that way. Although I've met some who did, actually, become Shinigami after they died.
